I just finished doing some work on a couple of drum tracks for the band “Shaw’s Landing.”

It sounds like some crazy stuff. Can’t wait to hear it when it’s done.

Of Fate and Chance

I recently spent the better part of a week out in New Jersey with the band “Of Fate and Chance.” These are some really great people and I’m glad to be involved with what they are doing. The band is working on demos for the next record and we’re going through all of their material to work out the bugs. Mostly just tweaking little things here and there. We threw a lot of ideas around and I think the ones that stuck are pretty good.

There should be more news to come regarding these guys.

Of Fate and Chance

Tinamou EP in progress

Tinamou has been hanging out in the studio for what is approaching two weeks now. If we can stay on schedule (which we haven’t entirely done so far), we’ll be finished tracking following two more days of studio time. Earlier today we finished violin, tracked all the bass guitar, and even had a saxophone player come in for a couple parts. All we have left are vocals.

Everything sounds great and I’m really excited for people to hear these new songs.

I’ll try to get some pictures up soon.

“You Never Knew,” International Songwriting Competition Semi-Finalist

I’m proud to announce that Attack Cat’s “You Never Knew” has been selected as a semi-finalist in the International Songwriting Competition. Though it is a songwriting competition, I’m still very excited to have the studio associated with a song that has received a “nod” from the ISC.

The song was entered in the Pop/Top 40 category and was one of 50 semi-finalists. I don’t know how many entries there were in this particular category, but I’ve read that there were over 1,500 songs in the competition this year!

Congratulations to Attack Cat.

Quick in-house live recording

We set up Attack Cat in a semi-cirle and through a mic in front of each person. Hit the record button and “off we go!” A couple of takes later we had an acoustic swing version of “I have A Plan,” an acoustic demo of a new song, and cover song (further listening revealed that the cover wasn’t really happening, so we scrapped it).

Either way, after a quick mix, there are a couple of extras to add to the “Sexy Song Remix.” …which will be free for the taking on CD Baby. Here’s a sample.

I did a remix of Attack Cat’s “Sexy Song” that people seem to like. This version was actually created specifically for the dance party following Attack Cat’s super-EP release show. I really wasn’t sure how it would turn out because I’ve never actually done a remix before, but I was hopeful. I’m not sure how, when, or in what form this version will be made available, but I look forward to more people hearing it.

The Lighthouse & The Whaler

“The Lighthouse And The Whaler” spent six days in the studio tracking a few new songs, as well as adding vocals to a number that were recorded elsewhere. I’ll be mixing these songs for the next couple of days. There are tentative plans for them to come back in the next month or two and record a few more as well. This is all part of their upcoming full length record.

“A Minor Bird” records drum tracks

We recorded drum tracks for “A Minor Bird” this past week at Sky Parlor. They turned out great and I’m sure that their EP will be great as well. The rest of the EP is being recorded elsewhere, so I’ll be looking forward to hearing it when it’s completed. Nate got to play the “Battlefield” drum kit and “Meinl” cymbals that we’ve got laying around here and he seemed to like them a lot — I know that I do. Hopefully they’ll send me a picture of Nate recording, since I was pressing buttons in the control room (naturally).

Attack Cat has made their way back into the studio to complete their EP (still untitled). Four more songs are in order for these sessions. That will bring the EP up to 8 songs! The plan is to have the EP completed in the middle of August so that it can be sent off to press. I’m looking forward to the continued work on the project. Hopefully I’ll get a couple of photos up soon.

Mixing “Gypsy Parade” Songs

We mixed four Gypsy Parade songs recently. While the band is no longer active, there has been some interest in getting these songs up on CDbaby, iTunes, Amazon, and the like. We plan on seeing them available in the near future. Included in this small batch of songs is a ballad titled “Lucy’s Song,” which has never even been streamed on line.
